3.5 - I enjoyed the eerie atmosphere and spirited protagonist throughout, but I was disappointed

Spoiler

that Mary didn't tell Jem to take a hike and live out her days peacefully and independently on a farm

in the end. I'm looking forward to reading more of du Maurier's work.
