The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun

4.0

It's funny that I picked this up, because I don't like dating reality shows. I also wasn't in the mood for a fluffy romance, but I bought this book three years ago and it was sitting there on my Kindle, so I poked at it.

Honestly? Pleasantly surprised! It was a little insta-love, but it's a romance about a dating/proposal show, so I was willing to suspend some disbelief.

I really liked the mental illness portrayals, and it was a cool touch that both leads had their own struggles that were different. That was unique, and not something I'm used to in fiction.

I thought the attraction was well-written, and I liked the sneaking little creep of noticing someone is attractive to noticing and appreciating the person they are.

Overall, cute, satisfying, and I liked the main characters enough to be invested in their happiness. And thumbs up for making me like a setting I ordinarily wouldn't.

It gets a little lecture-y in a few spots about mental health and self-care and queerness and labels, but not enough to sour me on the very cute story.
