The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker

5.0

"Death brought humans fear, and fear made humans interesting. Without Death, humans would grow complacent and stale."

This book! Y'all this book!

I finished The Keeper of Night last night and just had to get my thoughts out here. I loved this story from beginning to end. The world building, the character building, and the mythology/storytelling all kept me deeply enthralled and I didn't want it to end.

Ren was so relatable (despite the being made of Death thing) and I loved following her, her brother, Neven, and Hiro as they went on this trek. Ren is a woman who knows what she wants and will not let anything stop her or get in her way. The ups and down of these trials really had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen.

The pain that Ren has carried throughout her centuries of life in not knowing why her mother gave her up and then the hate she received from everyone in London because of her race is understandable and the discussions she has with Neven throughout really shine a light on how difficult it all is.

"When your heart is cold, you can have anything you desire. Nothing stands in your way."

I CANNOT wait for the second book in this duology coming out next year!
