I loved the world building and I loved the characters. It was just the right balance of politics, character relationships, and fantastical elements. Often times following a character who doesn't know what she wants can be frustrating because it feels like they don't have any agency. But Suri was somehow able to make Priya' s choices feel like her own all the same. Malini's journey was also a fun play with agency and how she wrested it from the grasp of others in a circumstance where you'd think she had none.
Being able to follow three characters who were all scarred from the same event and how they responded to those experiences was fascinating. It felt like each character we followed presented a new approach to a difficult situation with no right answer. Except Chandra of course. It felt almost like an exploration of philosophies without being talked to.
Definitely something I would recommend and reread.
