Medicine Man by Saffron A. Kent
5.0

5 stars. What is it with me and my love for forbidden romances? Like the more unethical and forbidden the more I want them to be together and this book gave me everything that I wanted in that aspect.

I love Saffron Kent’s writing style. Absolutely adore it. It’s different but very addictive. She does dialogue really well and I love that her characters are so flawed and imperfect and human. She handled the topic of mental illness really well and I feel like it was a realistic and brutally honest portrayal. This book is heavy on the angst and I did shed tears but it all comes together so beautifully in the end.

While I did love the relationship between Willow and Simon for me Willow herself was definitely the best part of this book. I absolutely loved her character. She’s a very complex character with a good heart. She’s so strong, much stronger than what she gives herself credit for and she isn’t afraid to go for what she wants. She’s someone I identified with on some levels and I found it so easy to empathize with her.

I liked Simon a lot but I feel like he was definitely the least developed of the two. He has a history and it’s pretty emotional of course but at some points he felt ‘by the numbers’ predictable. I knew how he was going to react before he did it. He was definitely a very hot character (and a dirty talker yaaaaas!) but I wanted more from him.

I loved the ending and the epilogue and I’m excited that some of the side characters are getting their own books.

I’m now on a mission to read everything by this author because I love her writing so much. I can’t recommend this one enough.

***This was another buddy read with the fabulous Melanie. Thanks for reading this with me!
