In this spine-chilling gothic murder mystery set in gritty Victorian-era London, an intrepid society girl finds herself inescapably embroiled in the investigation of a ghastly serial killer known as Jack the Ripper. Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life. Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

This is actually quite out of my comfort range when it comes to genres, I’d say it’s historical fantasy mystery. I’m not a huge mystery lover, they seem to bore me because I always end up not knowing what’s going on (when I read, my brain goes bye bye) and I’m also not the world’s greatest fantasy lover, I like it in little pieces. However I absolutely loved this!! I loved the relationship between Audrey and Thomas and I honestly thought it was Thomas (that’s his name right?) for the majority of the book and I was very shocked to find out that I was very very wrong! I never wanted it to end, I loved every minute of it and I cannot wait to read more from the series when I get to them! It seems to be a running theme with Maniscalco’s writing that I go into them thinking I won’t love them but come out of them absolutely adoring them!
