Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I LOVED this one. I wasn’t so sure going into it since I’m not into sports, but I really really liked it. Even though she wasn’t a likable person, I absolutely loved Carrie. And I loved her dad. And I loved the relationship they had together. And I loved Bowe and his relationship with both Carrie and her dad. It was perfect.
And I continue to love how all of her books (or most of her books) are interconnected in this subtle way.
I am going to copy my commentary from while reading below….
- 12% I love how Taylor Jenkins Reid makes all of her characters feel so real. Sure, they might be people who are extraordinary on paper (famous musicians, tennis players, and other types of celebrities) but the sort of stuff they go through is written so realistically. Like Carrie and this boy.
- 16% her father seems a bit exasperated by the monster he has created… but he created her. He has been pushing her since before she could walk telling her would be the greatest tennis star to ever exist. What did he expect?
- 17% look at that timing! He’s telling her he fucked her up by raising her with such high expectations
- 21% Brandon Randell- the husband of Mike Reva’s daughter- Nina Reva the swimsuit model!!! Yayyyy references to her other books!!! Oh shit. I just googled him to refresh myself on their relationship. I forgot that he cheated on Nina with Carrie… I LOVE HOW THEY ARE ALL CONNECTED
- 22% her body is starting to give out at 29… I’m 29 😭
- 24% “I’m not going to perform a triathlon everyday and NOT whine about it” 😂
- I just want to comment on the fact that Carrie is now 37 and managing to do all of this… meanwhile I carried boxes of books for approximately an hour yesterday with ample breaks and my arms are stupidly sore. An athlete I am not. Not until reading becomes a sport.

- I’ve been getting so many Serena Williams vibes from this book. Probably because she is the only tennis star that I know and she was trained by her dad. I need to watch King Richard this weekend- I’ve been meaning to since it came out.
- 27% her “I’m back” announcement ❤️❤️❤️
- 28% if she doesn’t win AT LEAST a single slam I will be devastated. What I really want is for her to win the entire calendar grand slam. Although I guess I can be satisfied with 2 of the four. Or even better yet 3.
- 32% I feel a bit sad for these two ex-retired players talking about their aches and pains… but at the same time his complaints are also making me laugh
- 38% I am so nervous for her
- 40% she is such a Slytherin and I love it
- 42% I want Carrie to crush Ingrid Cortez 😡
- I’m just now realizing that I’m going to be nervous and anxious for the entire duration of this book. Omg I hate not knowing what will happen 🙈

- I guess she had to lose to give her an obstacle to overcome in the rest of the book… but still. She will probably lose the French open. And whatever is third. She probably won’t win until the end. OR the other girl will win the French, putting her one slam above Carrie, making Carrie need to win BOTH of the remaining slams in order to maintain her title. I bet that will happen. Ultimate tension.

- 51% “that boy from What’s Eating Gilbert Grape is in it too” OMG is she referring to Johnny Depp as a boy 😂 I guess he technically was a boy but it’s strange for me to think of him that way
- 52% don’t tell her she is going to win the French open. She is most definitely not going to win the French open.
- 53% I absolutely love this trio
- 54% she is sort of being a bitch. He did allow her to postpone the game so she could be in a better head space despite the fact that he was winning.
- 58% I JUST realized what she has meant this entire time by planning several moves ahead. I’m an idiot. Of course she can plan moves ahead- planning to drag her opponent back and forth to various parts of the court.

- 84% I love that Chan sent her that “meaningful” bouquet

- 89% I took a 30 minute break to listen to a different book… now I’m back and she found the notebook 😭 there is still work for him to do. One last tournament she can win with her dad.
- And now Bowe is reading that book omg 😭
- I desperately want both Carrie AND Bowe to win the US Open.
- Bowe is literally the most amazing guy on the planet. I love him. I want him.
