The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow

A beautiful elegy to a girl and her dog. I imagine this is what it must feel like to have a loving family and to feel a sense of belonging from another human. Also some artistic homages to cats. Captivating and poetic—there were only a couple times where I wanted to throw things at a character’s choices, and only then it was a mild fling I craved, not a hard crash. Very romancy, but not saccharinely so.
