Love from A to Z
by S.K. Ali
This was a lovely contemporary and a good read for over spring break or summer break. It is set in Doha and there is some great scenery that are described beautifully. The writing style or format for this book was unique, it was told through diary entries from Adam and Zayneb (fun fact: the little play on words in the title did not occur to me until the end of the book, I'm sorry to say). They are both lovable-yet-realistically-flawed characters each with their own heartbreaking battles to face. Adam is dealing with his multiple sclerosis and how to tell his family about it. Zayneb is struggling with an Islamophobic teacher harassing her at school and a suspension in relation to it. And then they meet each on their flight to Doha and it's magical little meet-cute. I felt like this book balanced what some contemporary romances struggle with, balancing the fun, cute moments with the real life worries and struggles. It was a little eye-opening as far as the ridiculous demands and microaggressions Zayneb had thrown at her throughout her daily life...even when swimming in the gym pool! Cute, a little educational (as far as some cultural aspects and concerning multiple sclerosis), and with a great setting and a happy ending this is a book I enjoyed this book a lot and now I want to read more by S.K. Ali in the future.
