When Stars Collide by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

4.0

I will always read anything SEP writes! I'm a longtime fan but I will say I was a little disappointed with the latest in the Chicago Stars series. This works as a standalone book for those who haven't yet had the pleasure of getting to know the football team with bighearted players. Sparks fly when opera diva Olivia and backup quarterback Thad get put together on a campaign tour to promote high-end watches. This forced proximity romance worked for me but I didn't love the stalker/suspense aspect of the storyline. I also wasn't a huge fan of the narrator for this one - I really really did not enjoy the voice for Olivia, she seemed very standoffish and annoying - I feel like it might not have been as big a turnoff if I'd read a print copy. Thad was a very easy leading man to fall for and I loved that he helped Olivia try to get over her psychological singing roadblock while also not being afraid to stand up for his own dreams. The epilogue at the end of the book made the story for me, showing how these two strong characters were able to create a fulfilling life of compromise and love.
