H.P. Lovecraft: The Complete Fiction by S.T. Joshi, H.P. Lovecraft

5.0

I've had a thing for horror as far back as I can remember, but until reading this massive book (whose sheer page count is exacerbated by Lovecraft's dense writing style) I had no idea that most of my favorite horror stories were heavily influenced by, if not copy-cats of Lovecraft's ideas.

Each stand-alone piece expands ever so slightly on a larger overarching universe that is shared throughout Lovecraft's work. This is what makes reading the entire thing such a rewarding experience! The result is that each tale adds richness to others in interesting, unexpected ways - transforming the entire body of work much more than a collection of unrelated short stories.
