Jameela Green Ruins Everything
by Zarqa Nawaz
This book is satire to a ridiculous level. Think: Austin Powers movies. That kind of silliness can work on screen, but as a novel? It didn’t land for me. It was sometimes funny, but mostly it was far fetched and absolutely ridiculous.
I almost DNF’d a quarter of the way through, but I’m glad I didn’t because the main characters did become more likable as the story unfolded. However, by about halfway into the book, the story itself was completely off the rails. Although the effort was there, I don’t feel that the author ever successfully got all the moving parts back on track.
All in all, the writing wasn’t bad and I totally get what Zarqa Nawaz was trying to do with this book - it just wasn’t for me
