Fantomina; or, Love in a Maze by Eliza Fowler Haywood

Girlboss icon. Absolutely amazed.

This story follows a woman who likes a man. But he grows bored really fast and can't be bothered to stick around. So she finds an easy solution, wear different clothes and meet him in a new place to pretend to be a different person. This way she gets her man to cheat on her, with herself.

The fact that this man fell for it and even wrote "Never was a woman formed to charm like you: never did any look like you" might be my favorite forever.

Very funny.
