Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot by Mikki Kendall

5.0

Don't miss this one. It shifts the ~gaze~ of feminism away from pussy hats and postcard writing, and explores the intersectionality of race and feminism. This is the book that will make us uncomfortable rather than invite us to nod along and confirm what we already think we know. This makes the case for gun access as a feminist issue. Housing, hunger, education -- all feminist issues, that "traditional" feminists may not ever consider as such, because the middle class white feminists can live comfortably (and often ignore those not being served) in those spaces. I want to go back to this one a lot to continue to challenge myself. Please, friends, recommend more like this for me!
