I Have More Souls Than One
by Fernando Pessoa
Really enjoyed this collection and his different personalities definitely did read different. I definitely liked “Pessoa as Alberto Caiero” and “Pessoa as Álvaro de Campos” best, just because I connected to these poems the most. Quite funnily I liked “Pessoa as Pessoa” the least, but I really found interesting that the last poem of this short collection was only written 11 days before his death. I mostly liked the connection between inner monologue, mental health themes and nature in his poetry. I cannot really describe it, but sometimes the right poetry just clicks. And a lot of these poems did for me. (There are of course some I did not really enjoy that much, but that’s a given.) I might very much be courageous enough to read his “The Book of Disquiet” sometime now. I wanted to get a taste before delving into a 500 page tome, but it really worked out well. :)
