A delightful horror read that drops you into the action and proceeds at a quick clip from there. The story is an interesting lens on the impacts of abuse, addiction, and the rituals one forms to survive. I loved how this book plays with the concept of possession and what it means to be possessed, be it by a jealous lover or an otherworldly entity. I was worried the story was wavering around act 3 (and fortunately worried for nothing), but I think it stuck the landing. This book was a fun and funny read, balanced with a very real sense of creepiness, dread, and uncertainty as we follow an empathetic but unreliable narrator through her journey to stay in the haunted house that she loves.
Moderate: Child death, Domestic abuse, Gore, and Blood
Minor: Child abuse
