A Sky Painted Gold
by Laura Wood
Seventeen year old Lou can generally be found sneaking up to the famous and empty Cardew house to snuggle up with a book and an apple by the fireplace. The house has been empty for years and its the perfect spot to be alone. Until one day, the Cardew siblings show up to spend the summer at the home. Lou is quickly brought into their inner circle and experiences a life very unlike her current one. A life of money, and parties galore. As she grows closer to the siblings, Lou begins to wonder if what the show the world is a facade for their true feelings, hopes, and situations.
If any of you listen to the bad on paper podcast you have definitely heard Becca talk about this book! Their book choices are hit or miss for me (sorry The Idea Of You) so I had purchased this one on Becca’s recommendation, but then it sort of got lost in my tbr. When she mentioned it again on a recent episode I knew it was time to dive in. I loved this book. I felt like I was falling into a slump in the beginning of January but this is one of the books that slammed that slump to a halt. I just loved Lou. She was such a real and beautiful character, and I love watching her get wrapped up into a completely different world, but at the same time, come into herself and realize what she really wanted out of life. The Cardew siblings were exactly what you would expect of wealthy children left to their own devices after the loss of their father, but that made them so enticing. I could imagine the scenes in my head as I read which is always a great experience for me while reading a book.
