This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab
adventurous
dark
tense
fast-paced
4.0
So I'm torn between 3.75 and 4 stars, but I'll be generous and go with 4.
First, I want to say that I disliked this book at the beginning because Kate drove me nuts. So much so that I almost DNF this book. I'm glad I stuck with it though because the story (and Kate) got better. I definitely think August's chapters are what saved it for me though. I really enjoyed his character and he's the best part of the story, in my opinion.
Overall, for a YA book, it was pretty good. I thought the concept of monsters was interesting, if a bit bizarre (I personally have some questions regarding the violence that creates them). The Sunai are especially fascinating. The MC's arcs are fairly well done and the story, although a bit predictable, was entertaining.
Right now, I'm not sure if I will read the sequel...maybe some day.
