I cannot claim to grasp fully the sum of this work, as chunks of the book is written in such a dense, discursive way which makes it a difficult read at times; on the other hand, I believe this is a distraction and purposefully done. The changes in perspective are subtle yet powerful when viewed as an inward journey.
There is something very modern and relevant about the book, something about the feebleness of the human when we’re forced by circumstance to become more humble. To stop theorizing and simply accept the flow of space and time. Otherwise we run a risk of falling into endless repetition, a kind of ”stuckness”. I felt deeply moved by how it handled themes of loss.
Questions concerning climate change, trauma, and a post-knowledge world, intersperse in this beautiful but challenging book that puts our view of ourselves into perspective. It questions what it is to be a human, an animal, a god, and the thin line between creation and exploration on one hand, and destruction and chaos on the other.
