*squees unintelligibly* My favorite of the books in this series so far! Corin's creative problem-solving is my favorite thing ever—I love all the new enchanted items he thinks up and the strategies he uses in battles that are really, REALLY not in his favor. The dual against his father was the most enjoyable for me, with all the social / political strategy before it and the battle itself. *chef's kiss* And I highly appreciated that there are...consequences in this book. No spoilers, but I appreciate it. After all the crazy people, monsters, and demi-gods Corin and his found family face, there has to be some.

Now yes, there are some slow moments in this entry, but I completely disagree with the reviews that say the story/characters were lacking in this section. Patrick finally gets to shine in the quieter moments, I LOVE watching Corin experiment with his magic, Sera and her contracts are interesting—there's still a lot to love in the quiet moments.

The one thing that made me sad about this book was Keras leaving, but we all knew it had to happen. This is Corin's story, and as much as I love Keras, his leaving does allow the teens to shine. But gosh dang it, I need to know what happened with Dawn and Reika!!! 😭

*blows out her breath* I'm going to be hung over from this book for a while. Thank you, Rowe, for this delightful series!
