House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

A retelling of my favorite childhood fairy tale? I'm there. Oof. This was a fun read for me. I'm working on a project of reading as many retellings of the 12 Dancing Princesses as I can, and this one did not disappoint. I have many questions for Erin A. Craig. Inception is a big one: was managing the cast of 12 sisters what led to the murder mystery approach or did the murder mystery approach happen first and then sisters were murdered? Did the invisibility cloak in the original fairy tale inspire the theme of madness that is explored in the novel, or were some scenes at the end included to nod to the original? Why the nautical setting? Did the questions from the original fairy tale color figures, like the father? What type of "fairy shoes" would Madame Author have if she were to order a pair?

It's a good thing my family is all present and accounted for, because if not I'd want to pull baby names from this book. I loved all of them.
