Olga Dies Dreaming
by Xochitl Gonzalez
This book was so unexpected in the best way. It starts with Olga discussing her wedding planning business and my brain auto-populated a chick flick plot. And this book was not that but so much more. I loved how the author elucidated self-serving politics for the rich and privileged. I loved how she never made it a happy ending with mother. And how she highlighted that the practice of children living their lives in an effort to please their mother will not "earn" them the love that they are seeking/are deserving of. A lesson many of us have had to learn many times over. And if you are lucky enough to listen to the audio book version; the narrators were amazing. The book was deep and fun and real and fantasy all layered together; I can't wait to read more from Xochitl Gonazalez!
