whiskeylifter 's review for:
Northern Spy
by Flynn Berry
3.5-4 stars. I really enjoyed this story. I was able to connect with the characters and quickly got into the spy based plot. My biggest issue was with the historical context. I don’t know much about the IRA, the troubles period in Northern Ireland, etc. The book does a terrible job of giving a baseline of the history for readers. Given the book is likely to have large U.S. readership, that’s a big miss. Additionally, the story occurs in current day but acts as if there was no peace agreement 20+ years ago. With that said, brush off the bad historical context and you have a great book to read.
