Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

God this was "written by a man (dergoatory)"

The concept was fine, fascinating even! I had a vague familiarity with these general concepts so nothing was super new, very low level, layman's terms overview of the many world's theory in quantum mechanics. Just about my level of understanding of it, I thought the detail that went into it was appropriate for a mass market thriller/scifi.

What killed it...... were the characters......... Sorry not sorry, cannot stand Jason. Just about everything to do with Daniela and what happened with her character left me deeply uncomfortable. The paternalism. Her character only existed to give the MC a specific motivation, and then she was just bounced around and used to give him more man pain. And like sure, yeah, obviously someone's spouse is important and strong motivation for someone's actions, and also sure yeah she wasn't the main character and so the author didn't really HAVE to write her as such but........ Something about it all just made me uncomfortable. It was deeply male centric, in more ways than just the MC being a man.

Anyway, I'll try another of this guy's works but he's on thin ice.
