This book is not the best Grady Hendrix. It’s slow. The birth scenes were just not good. In fact until some of the later births I was going along with this book just fine, but then it started to feel like a pantomime of birth and I just wasn’t into it. The themes of motherhood are iffy at best. There’s a random SA story line that they dance around and it’s a weird choice, it’s a major plot point then it’s not.
Graphic: Body horror, Gore, Forced institutionalization, Medical trauma, Pregnancy
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Racism, Vomit
Minor: Cancer, Pedophilia, Rape, Abortion, Abandonment
