Aquaman, Volume 1: The Trench by Geoff Johns

4.0

I didn't know a lot about Aquaman going into this, besides the fact that there's been a lot of jokes made at his expense, and that he had one of the two marriages that survived the New 52 reboot. Now that I've read this volume though, I definitely want to learn more.

This book deals with the whole "Aquaman is a joke" thing is way that is very meta - maybe a bit too much so, but hopefully things will get toned down in later issues. The book does do a lot to establish Arthur's backstory, and comes up with a really freaky threat. Mera also is pretty awesome, and gets to shine in her own story at the end of the volume.

All and all, this is a very fun book and it sets up a very interesting mystery at the end, leaving me eager to check out volume 2.
