I think if you are coming here for an exciting, creepy vampire tale, you’re going to be disappointed. This book is old and you can tell because it desperately needs an editor to come in and sculpt the plot. Especially in the second half it gets soooo slow and repetitive. But I loved the first chapters in Dracula’s castle, which were so atmospheric and truly titillating. And there were other moments throughout the book that came back to that palatable tension. And overall as a vampire enthusiast, the vampire lore was really interesting and I think you can immediately see the influence all this lore has had on every subsequent versions of vampires. So it’s not easy reading, but I think it’s worth it at least once.
