House of Chains
by Steven Erikson
3.5 stars. How this world was conceived and put so expertly into novel form I don’t think I’ll ever comprehend. What an achievement this series is. I’m genuinely impressed by every entry so far.
As to the negative, I’ve finally figured out what I don’t really care for in Erikson’s prose. All too often characters make large “leaps of intuition” I’ll call them. They’ll react to a situation or respond to a comment in a way that makes me question why they’d do that or how they’d know that. And frankly it really irks me. And his style in general is a bit too enigmatic for my liking. He could spell things a little more and I certainly wouldn’t mind. All that being said, I still love this series and will absolutely continue. It will sadly probably never be my favorite though
