I liked this book a little bit more than book 6, but it is still not high in my favorites in the ranking of the series as a whole. What I liked most about this book was that it felt like it had more of a structure than the last book did. I can tell it is setting up the next book.
Now, what I didn't like: I wish there was more of a focus on the Blythe children despite not liking the last book which focused more on them. I feel like I liked them more at this age, or that L.M. Montgomery had given them more character. I feel like Walter is the most fleshed out of the Blythe children, and I think this is because he is the most similar to Anne. I think his similarities to Anne are why he is my favorite of the Blythe children. I didn't hate the focus on the manse children, but I wish it was more balanced. Una is my favorite of the manse children.
I also did not like the whole part between Ellen and Rosemary. Ellen made me angry with the way she was towards her sister. Ellen was very selfish in my opinion. I won't say more because I don't want to spoil it, but that whole part just annoyed me.
Lastly, I know L.M. Montgomery slowly makes Anne a less prominent character as the series goes on (because I've read these books before), but I still hate it. The book starts with Anne talking with Susan and Miss Cornelia, and then it's like L.M. Montgomery forget she existed and then at the end remembered she had to throw Anne back in. And poor Gilbert is forgotten even more. I just really miss the original characters.
Anyways, I'm nervous about the last book in the series because I vaguely remember it being very sad, and I'm not ready for how it's going to destroy me if I remember correctly.
