A successfully creepy Victorian Gothic tale, that manages to balance three timelines maintaining equal interest in each. It is disappointing that the 17th Century diary entries make no attempt to read as such. In fact the voice doesn’t change in any significant way to the 19th Century writings, distinguishable only by being in third person. The ending was a little predictable too. But it’s a fun spin-chilling read perfect for Winter nights by the fire nonetheless.
