A Reckless Memory is the first book in the Oil Knights series. It’s a direct descendent from the Oil Kings and Oil Barrons series’ about the Barron family and their (many) offspring.
This time it’s Ansen. Ansen is Allan’s son and Archer’s brother. Ansen was given money to marry Aggie by Aggies father. The wedding didn’t happen and it’s been 10 years and Aggie wants a little revenge. She finds out Ansen is down on his luck and brings him back with a job offer, though he doesn’t know the job is a general roustabout on her animal rescue farm.
This book challenged a few things for me. Firstly, second chance romance is not usually my jam. It can be boring as and a little ho hum. But Aggie is a different woman to the one Ansen knew (and loved) and Ansen soon learns and appreciates it, whilst encouraging the old Aggie to make an occasional appearance.
Secondly, I had a view of Ansen early on - who does what he did? The guy initially said he could have been happy enough with Aggie - and it gave me douche bag vibes of the highest order.like sure I could be happy with her. (Said in. a douchey kind of voice)… But during the course of this book Ansen becomes a little insightful and is able to name how he felt, and outlines his struggles and feelings about not being worthy given his background. It explains a lot about him and he’s not so douchey but a hell of a dirty talker.
There’s some steam - not too heavy though and suiting these characters which Marie always seems to get right in her books.
Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy to read and review.
Loved it.
