I like what the author did here with grief. It was real and raw and I’ve learned based on personal experience. I loved exploring what it is like to live with someone you know is dying, dealing with grief with a small child, learning to let go of items and thoughts that tie you to your passed away loved one, and finding out who you are outside of that grief. This made it a very emotional read.
The love story? Meh. Hugh grew on me but I tbh I was excited about Justin in the beginning (a curveball I’m sure was done on purpose). The big secret frustrated me. I didn’t find it noble or anything to keep something from a grieving widow. Especially if that is what is keeping you from being with someone you love.It was convenient I guess that Katie found out through other means but I really didn’t like that he was determined to take that to the grave (something I didn’t even think was a very big deal and sort of expected Cam would feel that way in his situation) and Katie is like wow I love his integrity!!! Stubbornness and foolishness if you ask me.
Also Katie was so dense at times. I understand her grief makes it hard to focus on anyone or anything else besides just surviving, but a lot of the moments when she was like “oh wow I never knew this person felt that way” I’m like ??? HOW we all knew!!!
But again overall a well written and interesting story and I appreciate what the author had to say on the subject.
