Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight

1.0

Although I DNFed this book I have it listed as read because I just don’t see myself continuing anymore.

This was pretty much a corny wattpad story. It started off a little goofy in my opinion which I didn’t mind at the time but from there I should’ve known I couldn’t take it seriously. As someone who grew up on the cheesy ‘sold to the mafia’ wattpad stories (and still kind of enjoy the trope), I don’t feel that this book took it on tastefully. I really wanted to like this as it was a buddy read but I just could not get into this one. There were too many eye rolls and breaks from this to count.

I couldn’t stand the female lead Roxy and her relationship with the boys were surface level at best with the strange exception of Diesel. She was insufferable and the I couldn’t really connect with the guys so my short experience with this was doomed.

Overall, the book was so cringey that I dragged it out throughout the month hoping it would be better but ultimately left it on chapter 26. For anyone who is still into the cheesy but dirty mafia/gang romances, this is for you I guess…..

Spoilers below ~

(Nothing explicit but a small recap of chapters 1-26 before I cut the cord on this book)

Right from the beginning it was set up like one of those corny “I was sold to the mafia by my asshole of a parent” wattpad books. The Vipers took our FMC in as a punishment to her ain’t shit ass father who apparently owed them money but was proven to be further useless. Why they didn’t just kill him like they’re quick to kill everyone else is beyond me. We get introduced to a “not like other girls” rocker chick named Roxy who’s supposed to be “super badass” and capable of anything life throws at her.

*Cue the eye rolls*

I wanted to give her character type a try but she was portrayed as very childish and cringe throughout the nearly 200 pages I managed to put up with. The Vipers all had their respective personalities with some (well one) a bit more bizarre than the others and despite not really wanting her there, they sure as hell willingly kept her around.

Fast forward to all the mafia gang drama and killing that Roxy has no problem with happening right in front of her eyes and even takes part in. Her “relationships” with the guys were just odd and rushed. Diesel, the one member of the Vipers that needs to be buried under a jail and is the most feared of them all is suddenly very caring and close to a random girl? Ryder, someone who is calm and collected loses his cool for absolutely no reason when it comes to her? I swear this man was hearing wedding bells after “hating” her for the few days she was with them. I don’t feel that Kenzo’s character was really established where I left off but he cozied up to her very quickly as well. Then there’s Garett, someone who very obviously has issues and trauma related to women and has made it very clear he does not want to be bothered. And what does Roxy do? Throws herself at him with so much confidence and audacity that triggers him into giving her what she asked for but by all means not in a way anyone would want. By that point I was done and had to put the book down. The spice in this book was there but just in a way that was not all that tasteful in my opinion. And that’s something coming from someone would eat dark romance up.

This was just a big no for me and was quickly dnfed
