I also wonder as someone else did if this was about a single father. Plus, I have a soft spot for Andrew Clements. I don't know that I would use it for story time - it struck me as a more one on one bonding book.

I do agree that the father did seem to be idealistically portrayed and missed several teaching opportunities.
