I read the first installment in this series, Binti, earlier this year and absolutely loved it and was so excited to find out that there were two more books after it! It’s such a unique and exciting world that the author has created and I couldn’t wait to see how Binti’s story of self discovery would continue.

I loved getting a glimpse into what attending a school in another section of the galaxy is like in this world; there are multiple species that attend the school and the Sci-Fi lover in me wanted to spend another novella just to delve into the relations between different species, more of what the classes entail, how do they travel to and from their home planet… I may have paused from reading for a bit just to imagine the possibilities. We only spend a couple chapters or so at the university and then we’re off to Binti’s homeland and introduced to a whole other dynamic. At the university, she’s celebrated as helping to end the war but at home she’s essentially shunned for going to the university and following what she felt called to do. It’s so relatable, that struggle to please your family but also stay true to who you are and follow your own dreams. She’s a young woman desperately trying to reconcile the girl she used to be with the woman she’s becoming and it only strengthens the bouts and anger she experiences.

I could have spent an entire novella reading about the Desert People and their way of life, I found it absolutely fascinating! And I love that help Binti along on her path coming into her own as a Master Harmonizer, it’s a really nice progression that takes place with Binti, as she realizes her own misconceptions and learns to accept who she is. Overall, I loved it!
