Lady of Ashes by Melissa K. Roehrich
3.0
I’m wavering somewhere between 2-3 stars, so just rounding up. I still find Scarlett so exasperating. I find it hard to like her as a MC. I understand that her personality is supposed to be due to her trauma and her upbringing but she just comes off so bratty.
The most enjoyable part of this book was when her friends confronted her about the way she is. Of course, she still continued to do similar things, albeit on a smaller scale but I’m so over her hiding or just not revealing information for no reason, especially from Sorin. I get that she’s not going to change right away or completely, but maybe if her attitude wasn’t as bratty I’d feel less strongly.
I like all of the other characters. I kind of find Talwyn and her story arc more appealing than Scarlett’s. I like Sorin, but I find myself not really caring about Scarlett and Sorin’s relationship because of Scarlett.
The ending and cliffhanger were good. The actual plot still interests me and for the world building sake of the Legacy series (which is so much better in almost all aspects, IMO) and the future Avonlean series, I’m pushing through the rest of this series.
