We Are Lost and Found by Helene Dunbar

5.0

Dunbar beautifully pieces together the fear and desperation of the young people finding their place in the LGBTQ+ community in the 1980’s.

She embraces the awkward and awe inspiring feelings of teenagers and then bashes them on the head with the looming fear of the AIDS epidemic.

Carefully, she uses the novel to teach our budding generations the history and confusion of AIDS. It truly felt as if I was reading a diary from many years ago and it was a great reminder how far we have come.

Not only was this a great story, it was an impressive history lesson!
