I started this book assuming that I wouldn't like it (it was a gift, so I felt obliged to read it). The back cover likens 'The Trio' to Sally Rooney's 'Normal People', which I haven't read, but 'Conversations With Friends' bored me to tears. So, I was prepared to find 'The Trio' similarly tedious. I surprised myself by enjoying it more and more. However, there came a point – not too far from the end, thankfully – where I became impatient for it to wrap up, tired of its narrators' to and fro. It doesn't fall into my 'couldn't put it down' category, but I enjoyed it regardless – and the writing, for a 30-year-old author, is impressive.
