Malibu Rising
by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This is not a book a I would usually choose to read, but a gorgeous cover and a request from a lovely bookstagram lady to do it as a buddy read. Why not?
At first I wasn't sure, but it kept me drawn in enough to keep reading. I am so glad that I did. We follow Nina and he beautiful siblings, famous and absent fathers, and a love sick mother. It delves into a world of the rich and famous as well as surviving poverty (and just getting by). Nina has to learn to grow up quickly and learn what it is to be a parent when there is no other option. This family explores love, loss, found family, affairs, alcoholism, fame, fortune, and poverty. It explores what family and each members' identity are within it. We learn what it is to be strong and confident females through Nina, Kit and June. But also what it is to be children of a rick star who is never around.
This book is beautifully written and the landscape is described equally a beautifully. The characters are well rounded and the plot is fast pace. We get multiple timeliness and POV, yet the book flows without being clunky.
I really enjoyed this book (even though there was minimal spice). It had me up until the early hours finishing it.
