The Outlaw's Tale by Margaret Frazer

3.0

Possibly the most implausible of the Dame Frevisse novels, this one belongs in the "stupid Frevisse" stage that thankfully shifts with the later novels. I think it is the only one where Frevisse's actions, particularly those involving opium, make her positively detestable at points. While I have a certain interest in a series written with a flawed protagonist, the novel's seeming belief that those around her would view her as perceptive, while painting her the opposite, was very irritating.
