Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve
4.0

A uniquely imaginative concept with decently complicated characters, but it's executed with mediocre grace that relies heavily on shock and awe at times when the narrative could have leaned more towards emotional impact. Despite that, this book was a fun ride, and I'm pumped to see where Reeve's imagination takes us. The world is an imaginative cross between Howl's Moving Castle and Mad Max Fury Road, and it's as awesome as it sounds.

Edit: after reading complete series, I'm happy to say this was an insanely entertaining series that got better and better with each book. Reeve uses this first book to build off of for the later ones and utilizes time skips to really invest the reader in the lives of these characters. I'm very happy with this read.
