My first Leon and I understand why the Commissario Brunetti novels have become a mass hit.

The vibe was so Italian!

Usually, in an airport thriller, characters are running around under pressure. In Venice, every meeting with a witness or suspect occurs over coffee in a cafe planned days in advance. Brunetti spends more time dining with his wife and drinking wine than reviewing forensic evidence!

References to the Mafia and architecture got a bit tacky and the slowness got to me but it was charming to get a taste of European life. I bet Brunetti has a great pension lined up.
