This was so much fun to read, and I liked it even more than the first book in the series. I am a suker for a fake-dating/marriage of convenience type romance book, and this one fit the bill perfectly. Plus it's full of Licking Thicket shenanigans that you can't help but love.

Diesel Church has recently been granted guardianship of his niece after the death of his sister. And, he's determined to raise the little girl just like her mom wanted. Unfortunately his sister's adoptive parents are contesting the adoption, and Diesel realizes he's got to come up with a plan fast. When he bumps into the very adorable and very capable Parrish Patridge he realizes this man may be exactly what he needs. And, while their arrangement starts out as a fake-fiance situation to help bolster's Diesel's chances at winning the custody case, these two realize behind their fake relationship may be some very real feelings.

Both of these characters are fantastic. Parrish is an utter delight, and he is immediately taken by both Marigold and Diesel. I love how determined he is to help them both even if it ends up breaking his heart in the processes. Diesel is a big, gruff man covered in tattoos who is actually the biggest marshmallow that ever was. And, I love him for it. Parrish and Diesel are both so full of self-doubt, but also want so badly to do the right thing and be exactly what the other person needs. I was so glad to see Parrish realizing that when someone takes advantage of your kindness, that it says more about them than it does about you. And to see Diesel realizing that he has a place in Licking Thicket and he's surrounded by people who love and support him even if he doesn't realize it.

Three Thoughts:
1. Parrish's one-sided conversations with Miss Sara (the human, not the pullet) were hilarious, and made me love him even more.
2. Seeing all the characters supporting Diesel just made my heart happy, and it's one of my favorite things about small town romances.
3. Parrish starting a the new tradition of the Lickin' Kissin' on the fly, and everyone just going with it is peak Licking Thicket.

This was utterly delightful. And, all the teases about Tucker and Dunn have me so excited for their book. I adore this ridiculous town and it's loveable residents, and I can't wait to read more.

content warnings: custody battle, loss of a loved one (in the past), sex (on page), cheating (previous relationship)
