The Secret History of Twin Peaks by Mark Frost
4.0
I read these Twin Peaks books out of order technically, but I don't think that affected my enjoyment. I surprisingly learned a lot of actual history, especially in the first section about the Lewis and Clark expedition and some of information about the real-life projects created to investigate UFOs by the US government. I was frequently googling terms and events to see if they were real, and while everything had a special supernatural twist thrown in, there was a good amount of actual facts. I loved how much of the lore this book expanded on, and how many more questions I still have even after going through so much Twin Peaks content. I noticed a sort of retcon to a couple characters backstories, namely Nadine and Josie. The events that the book describe about these two seem to contradict what was in the original show. I take this as a way to "fix" some of the poor writing in the second season, and I welcome it.
Douglas Milford has been elevated from an extremely minor character to a central part of the mystery. I look forward to a rewatch of The Return with all of this new knowledge swirling in my head.
