The House Witch
by Delemhach
At first I was quite interested but the book's ability to keep me engaged ended up going like this: 📉📉📈📉📈📉📈📈📉📉. There were times where I felt like it dragged and I even had to skim through some parts in order to get through it. The book could be fun at times, but the humor was often juvenile. The greatest offender of this was the whole thing about Lord Fuks and his family (not getting into details, but if you've read the book you'll know what I'm talking about) - the joke was a bit funny right at the start but then the author would not let it go. No, I am not a ten-year-old boy and I do not need this immature little bit to span over multiple pages.
My biggest issue, however, was the romance. There was no chemistry or tension and I didn't understand how, why or when these two fell in love with each other. And how, they didn't just develop feelings, but they were also willing to risk and give up so much for each other. When the romance was still "developing" I would groan inwardly because I neither cared nor was convinced by it; and when it "bloomed" I was done and completely uninterested.
Also, something that I think people could find annoying and difficult to believe is the fact that Fin can be as rude or disrespectful as he wants and nothing happens because he's an incredible cook. I know that cozy fantasy is very low-stakes, but the way he didn't face any repercussions for any of his actions or behavior was a choice.
The most interesting characters, for me personally, ended up being the kitchen aides. Actually - everyone in the castle other than Fin and Lady Jenoure.
I will not be continuing this series.
