Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Amelia Nagoski, Emily Nagoski

emotional informative inspiring slow-paced

4.0

The tone of this book definitely isn't for everyone.  Anyone who has ever used the words "feminist bullshit" probably should just slap the label on this and move on.  And even some people who are serious about the issues portrayed in the book will be turned off by the somewhat flip vibe (yes, they come up with somewhat-cutesy names for things, and go "(ugh)" after every mention of the patriarchy, and that can get old).  But when it gets down to it, to understand why women are stressed, you have to move beyond just WHAT women are stressed about and get down to WHO IS TELLING THEM THEY HAVE TO BE STRESSED ABOUT THOSE THINGS.  And once you get to that, you have to point out that they are being treated different than others, and that they can change this.  I mean...anything else is just skirting around the issue.

Overall, though, I liked the book, and it made me tear up every now and then when it hit a personal sore spot, which I consider a good thing.
