A Trial of Sorcerers by Elise Kova

adventurous lighthearted medium-paced

4.0

i’ve been in a lengthy reading slump and this book truly reminded me how much i used to enjoy reading. i especially find fantasies hard to get into yet this one was gripping from start to finish despite its easy writing. as a first book in a series, it wasn’t too packed yet it had the perfect amount of events and pacing that kept me engrossed and waiting for the very next thing.
i like my books to keep me at the edge of my seat and this one definitely did the trick with the hidden secrets and the thrilling unforeseen plot twists.
eira has so much potential as a character. i won’t dare say she’s one of my favorite heroines just yet because i did find her personality a bit lacking, something i hope the author would fix in the second book, but i definitely enjoyed being in her head and i couldn’t help but care for her at the end of the day.
the other side characters struck me as a bit one dimensional as well. i didnt feel anything for most of them to be honest and i hope the author would work more on the characters development as well as their relationships
since it was hinted that eira and cullen might be catching some feelings towards each other to which i find myself indifferent about seeing as they had about only four to five interactions throughout the whole book.

all in all, i am quite pleased with this book and i absolutely can’t wait for the sequel!
