Anne Shirley has my heart!  She inspires me, makes me laugh, and makes me wish I had her as a bosum friend for my childhood.  Just as Marilla shed tears over Anne growing out of her childhood, so did I feel a pang of sadness for how quickly it went by.  Anne’s escapades never fail to be entertaining, but her dialogue shows the depth and inner turmoil of her soul that so many children experience but never put into words.  It touches on grief, friendship, grudges and forgiveness.  Avonlea is sheltered from the pain and broken mess of the outside world, and as a reader, sometimes that is exactly what you need. A beautiful little escape in a book, following a girl with a heart full of sunshine.  It truly is a special book indeed that not only draws you in, but draws your attention outward to the beauty around you that may have, sadly, gone unnoticed if it weren’t for Anne’s example.
