The House at Watch Hill by Karen Marie Moning

4.0

I was so excited for this book to launch, having been in severe withdrawal since the Fever Series ended (my absolute favorite that I’ve been reading since 2009) and wasn’t disappointed. I found this first book a great launch into a mystical new universe from KMM and really enjoy the tone of mystery and the unknown that she sets up so well. The story with the house and the main character’s lineage is really compelling so far. I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the series!

Karen always sets up great characters that leave you with endless questions (some answered, some never answered) and I have yet to find another author who can do tension, lore, plot, and spice as well as she can in her stories, and I didn’t feel that was missing in this book. It’s something that for me makes them hard to put into just one category; this series, like Fever, would appeal to different people for different reasons.

I rated this one 4 stars instead of 5 as it didn’t grip me quite as well as Fever did, but I really feel it’s a 4.5. I did feel this first book could have been a bit longer- I wanted a little more of the story before we wrapped up this intro book, but I understand that this one was really meant to set the scene for the rest of the series to play out.
