This Is Me Trying
by Racquel Marie
this book was beautiful.
it was completely heartbreaking and i shed so many tears, but being able to watch bea and santi grow through and learn from their grief was amazing and hopeful.
this book dealt with the topic of a loved one committing su*cide in such a realistic and meaningful way (which feels ironic to say since one of the characters hates how people say she deals with her “grieft with such grace…”) and i feel there is so much to learn from it and from the characters.
i just love this book. i loved it from the first tear i shed over the characters and their struggles and i think it will continue to hold a special place in my heart.
it was awful to hear candace repeat to bea that she was “just a kid,” because that’s how i felt the entire book. they are all just children…
this book speaks to different kinds of deaths and losses, to making a future for yourself and not others, to understanding our own grief and coming to lean on others, and to learning that this life is all we have and it’s not perfect, but we can make it good.
it is real and it is human and i highly recommend it. (!!)

“I shut my eyes and tuck my hands under my back, painfully aware that I’m here and I’m alive and this is real, and I do not run from it.”
